David's Journey
Wearable Art from Another Era
I'm David, and I design clothing featuring the work of early 20th-century avant-garde artists - Picabia, Schwitters, Kandinsky, Klee, Braque, and others who revolutionized visual art between 1910 and 1970.
These artists fascinate me. Picabia's refusal to be confined by any movement. Schwitters finding beauty in discarded train tickets and newspaper scraps. Kandinsky trying to paint what music sounds like. The audacity of calling geometric shapes and chaotic collages "art" when the world expected realistic paintings.
Most people only saw this work once - on a grade school museum tour, walking past in a line. These pieces were meant to provoke, to challenge, to start conversations. They belong out in the world, not locked behind velvet ropes. That's why I put them on clothing - so they can be worn, lived in, talked about over coffee when someone asks "where'd you get that?" I want these works of art to be seen daily, because they share and bring beauty into the world.
Each piece in this collection represents a moment when someone decided convention was suffocating and broke free anyway. After World War I shattered the old world, these artists responded by shattering traditional art right along with it. No more painting exactly what you see - instead, paint what you feel, what you hear, what chaos looks like, what movement means. That spirit - the courage to reject "the way it's always been done" and try something entirely new - still matters.
All designs are printed on quality garments and shipped directly to you.
